Important NoticeOn June 6, 2011, Maryland's only nesting Northern Goshawk and her three chickswere found dead in Savage River State Forest near Grantsville, Garrett County. The female goshawk was shot and the chicks subsequently starved. In response to this unconscionable crime, the Maryland Ornithological Society is offering a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrator. The following are the latest species considered endangered or threatened in the State of Maryland. Please note that this is NOT the Federal endangered species list. This list was compiled by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife and Heritage Division. And remember, if you see an endangered or threatened species it is very important that you provide DNR with this information.
